Navigating Your Career Transition: Mastering the Passive Job Search

Unlock the secrets to advancing your career while excelling in your current role with strategic insights from our latest workshop.

I am very excited to be part of your career journey!  You have full access to my five strategies and I encourage you to fully engage with each one.

You will notice, however, that the course is slanted toward people in an Active Job Search.

Here’s some key points of which I want you to be aware:

  • Definition of Passive vs. Active Job Search: I define a passive job search as looking for a new role while still employed full-time, as opposed to an active job search where the individual is not currently working and can devote all their time to finding a new job.
  • Derailers of a Passive Job Search:
    • Commitment: Be aware of the  importance of maintaining commitment to the job search, even if circumstances at the current job improve. Circumstantial reasons for a job search can lead to inconsistency and lack of progress.
    • Time: The challenge of allocating sufficient time for job search activities due to the demands of the current full-time job. It is extremely important to schedule dedicated time for the job search.
  • Maintaining High Performance in the Current Role: I advise keeping performance at the highest level in your current job. This integrity ensures a valuable exchange with the current employer and makes the individual more attractive to future employers. I encourage you to take on significant projects and initiatives to enhance attractiveness to next employers.
  • Recommendation for Networking: For passive job seekers, 80% of the time dedicated to job searching should involve conversations and collaboration with others.  This is adjusted from the 15 conversations per week suggested for active job seekers.  Many of my clients devote 5 hours to their search so that means being in collaboration with contacts 4 hours a week.

So be aware of the unique challenges of a passive job search, including managing time effectively, staying committed despite changing circumstances, and the importance of maintaining high performance in one's current role.

Continue focusing  on integrity, active collaboration, and leveraging current job achievements as a springboard for future opportunities.
